QEM/TCUP STEM LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE (LDI)
COHORT I -- FELLOWS IN THE NEWS

ABOUT THE QEM/TCUP STEM LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE (LDI)
The Quality Education for Minorities (QEM) Network received support from the National Science FoundationÕs Tribal Colleges and Universities Program (TCUP) for a workshop series focused on STEM leadership development. The QEM/TCUP STEM Leadership Development Institute
(LDI) supplements QEMÕs activities under its TCUP leadership development initiative. The Institute / LDI is designed to support and encourage broader participation by Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian faculty and staff in efforts to enhance STEM education at their home institutions. The schedule for LDI Cohort I consisted of three sessions: Session I - a five-day Institute held on August 21-25, 2006; Session II - a two-day follow-up workshop held on February 2-3, 2007; and Session III - a five-day Institute held on August 6-10, 2007.  An on-going Institute support system includes mentoring, videoconferencing, a Listserv, and a Web-based information exchange site.

QEM/TCUP STEM LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE (LDI) Ð Cohort II

The Quality Education for Minorities (QEM) Network has received support from the National Science Foundation (NSF)Õs Tribal Colleges and Universities Program (TCUP) to offer a second Leadership Development Institute (LDI). The Institute will take place in three sessions between August 2008 and August  2009: a five-day workshop (Monday-Friday, August 4-8, 2008); a two-day workshop (Friday-Saturday, February 6-7, 2009); and a five-day workshop (Monday-Friday, August 3-7, 2009). Applicants must be fully committed to completing the three-part Institute and its associated requirements.

During the InstituteÕs one-year timeframe, an on-going support system will exist for Cohort II members that will include mentoring, a Listserv, videoconferencing, and a Web-based information exchange site describing professional development opportunities. LDI graduates will be prepared and expected to take a leadership role in the design, promotion, and management of new STEM Projects for their campuses and to provide enhanced support to the principal investigators and project directors of the TCUP projects at their institutions.
