ON-LINE DATABASE ON MINORITY ENGINEERING AND COMPUTER & INFORMATION SCIENCES DOCTORAL RECIPIENTS AND GRADUATE STUDENTS   (INFLOW)

The Quality Education for Minorities (QEM) Network received a grant from the National Science Foundation to develop and maintain an on-line database of information on minority doctoral engineers and computer scientists and students pursuing graduate degrees in all fields of engineering and computer & information sciences. The QEM database (INFLOW) will provide easy access to a comprehensive source of minority engineering and computer science professionals in academia, industry, and government that can be regularly updated by participants via QEM’s website.

INFLOW incorporates doctoral engineering and computer science professionals from a variety of professional organizations and a diverse array of employment venues as well as offer links to (discipline-specific and cross-discipline) scholarly development opportunities. Existing databases contain limited information on underrepresented minority engineers, computer scientists, and graduate students and tend to focus on institutions rather than individuals. The inclusion of minority engineering graduate students will be very useful to institutions, organizations, and program officers seeking access to individuals new to the field with fresh research interests.

Having a database with this information available on-line and regularly updated will allow users easy access to information that can help to broaden the pool of minority professionals from which potential NSF proposal reviewers, panelists, rotators, and/or advisory committee members are identified. The database serves to increase awareness among the registrants of other minority professionals in their respective fields, which, in turn, can lead to greater collegiality and collaborative research efforts among these professionals. Access to the database will be limited to “user” agencies, individual registrants, STEM-focused partner organizations, and QEM staff.

If you would like more information on INFLOW, please contact Shirley McBay, Project Director, via email at smmcbay1@qem.org or Laura-Lee Davidson at inflow@qem.org. Either can be reached via telephone  at 202/659-1818. You may also view our INFLOW brochure here.
